4.27.2013 – Tuckerton Zone 9 Debris Update

Subject: Jersey Shore Open for Fishing and Boating

With recreational fishing and boating season upon us, the Christie Administration has released a "Jersey Shore Open for Boating" fact sheet and flier to educate the public on having a safe time on the water. Waterways in some areas may be very different than before Superstorm Sandy, and boaters need to be aware of obstacles and adjust their speed accordingly for safety.
The DEP has posted two documents and a new webpage for boaters pertaining to Superstorm Sandy and its aftermath:

- Frequently Asked Questions for Boaters – http://www.nj.gov/dep/special/hurricane-sandy/docs/faq-boaters.pdf

- Jersey Shore-Open for Boating Flyer – http://www.nj.gov/dep/special/hurricane-sandy/docs/waterways-open-boater-flyer.pdf

- Sandy Waterway Debris Resources – http://www.nj.gov/dep/special/hurricane-sandy/wwdebris.htm

The DEP continues to monitor water quality along the entire coastline, with all test results meeting recreational use standards. All recreational use advisories have now been lifted across the state.

Additionally, the DEP will continue to work with the New Jersey Department of Health, as well as county and local health agencies, to ensure protection of water quality and the safety of the public now and into the summer season. Recreational bathing beaches will be thoroughly monitored, with any closings posted on the DEP’s website at http://www.njbeaches.org/.

More information can be found in the DEP News Release.

President’s Message:

Neighbors Helping Neighbors Fight Cancer

The Greater Atlantic Bluefish Tournament, which is scheduled for June 1, 2013, is a competitive, popular event with a significant and loyal following of local and regional fishing enthusiasts. The tournament and its associated events engages anglers from all walks of life in an enjoyable, worthwhile fundraising campaign to aid our friends and neighbors in the fight against cancer and other catastrophic illnesses.

The GABT is a registered Non-Profit 501 (c) (3) organizationwith no paid workers. Funds for the organization are derived primarily through individual and corporate contributions, as well as entry fees from the tournament.

We are committed to continue, “Neighbors Helping Neighbors” throughout Southern New Jersey. Requests for patient assistance have more than doubled in the past few years. We continue to strive in providing assistance to patients who are unable to work due to debilitating illness and must make such difficult choices as whether to pay for their treatment or to pay recurring daily expenses such as rent and utilities. Facing eviction or having to make the choice of putting food on the table or paying for medicines and treatments is a terrible dilemma to face for these critical patients. Our mission is to help them through this difficult period.

Since becoming a non-profit we have helped more than 275 families from seven southern New Jersey counties. We have given grants ranging from $250 to $6200 to help families who are battling these illnesses. We also award an annual “Bob Ripley Scholarship” to a deserving radiological student at Shore Medical Center.

In October 2011 we added a “Chinese Auction” to our event schedule. This event was very successful and we plan on making it an annual event.
The GABT welcomes volunteers. Anyone interested can contact us using the contact form on this website.

The GABT, Inc. appreciates and welcomes all financial and material support no matter what amount.

Thank you,

Gus Elias
